A new era is dawning at Ibrox as Rangers’ US-based owners – spearheaded by investors linked to the San Francisco 49ers – have begun pressing forward with a dramatic overhaul of the club. After a disappointing season that saw the team finish 17 points adrift of arch-rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and fail to lift any silverware, sweeping changes are already underway.
The shake-up began with the departure of interim manager Barry Ferguson, who took over after Philippe Clement was relieved of his duties in February. Despite hopes of steadying the ship, Ferguson has now exited the club after not being offered the role on a permanent basis. His departure is one of several, as three more high-profile exits have also been confirmed, reflecting the ownership’s intent to reset the culture and direction of the team from top to bottom.

Back in March, it was revealed that a US consortium – with strong ties to NFL franchise the San Francisco 49ers – had reached an agreement in principle to become the majority stakeholders at Rangers. Since then, the board has been laying the groundwork for what is shaping up to be one of the most significant rebuilds in recent club history.
The new leadership group has made it clear that settling for second best is no longer an option. With fresh investment and a new long-term vision, they aim to restore Rangers to the summit of Scottish football and re-establish the club as a consistent force in European competition.
