Kyren Wilson endured a deeply distressing day away from the snooker table after being forced to withdraw from his Championship League group following a burglary at his home while he was competing.
The reigning world champion had begun his day in strong form at the Championship League Snooker event in Leicester, opening with an impressive 3–0 victory over Haydon Pinhey. However, the positive momentum of his performance was quickly overshadowed by alarming news that his family home had been broken into during a narrow window in the morning while he was away at the venue.
Following confirmation of the incident, Wilson took the difficult decision to withdraw from the remainder of his group matches, prioritising his family and dealing with the aftermath of the burglary. The group will now continue with the remaining three players competing to complete the schedule.
In a detailed public statement shared via social media, Wilson explained that the burglary occurred between 11:04am and 11:22am. He confirmed that CCTV footage captured the offenders and that the matter has been reported to the police, with an active investigation now underway. Among the items stolen were several pieces of high-value jewellery and watches, including a Cartier watch, an Audemars Piguet timepiece, a ladies’ Rolex Datejust with a pink dial, and a blue sapphire necklace purchased as a 10-year wedding anniversary gift for his wife. He also revealed that £2,000 in cash set aside for a children’s cancer charity donation was taken, adding an especially painful dimension to the incident.
Wilson’s statement emphasised that the emotional impact of the burglary goes far beyond financial loss, highlighting the sentimental value attached to the stolen items and the violation felt by his family. He appealed to the public for assistance, asking anyone with information or anyone offered the items for sale to contact the authorities.
