JONES SHOCKS SELBY! Welshman Crowned British Open King After Stunning 10–6 Triumph!
Jak Jones produced a composed and determined performance to defeat Mark Selby 10–6 in the final of the 2026 British Open, securing the biggest title of his career and adding another major achievement to his growing snooker story.
The Welshman, who has continued to establish himself among the sport’s leading competitors, showed impressive resilience throughout the final. Jones kept his composure when the pressure increased and capitalised on the opportunities that came his way, eventually pulling clear of Selby to complete a memorable victory.
For Selby, however, it was a frustrating night in Cheltenham. The four-time world champion struggled to maintain his best level as the contest progressed, allowing Jones to build a decisive advantage and ultimately lift the trophy with a 10–6 victory.
The defeat marked another disappointing ending for Selby after what had been a competitive tournament. While the result clearly belonged to Jones, some observers felt Selby’s performance on the final night did not fully reflect his ability.
According to social media user Alex H, Selby appeared to lose momentum as the match reached its closing stages. He suggested that a combination of fatigue and frustration over a poor run of the ball may have contributed to Selby’s decline. Alex also felt that Jones was not subjected to enough sustained pressure during the final to truly test him.
“Can’t win them all,” Alex noted, while adding that Selby “fell away at the end,” perhaps because of fatigue and irritation with the conditions and luck of the table. In his view, Jones was not put under sufficient pressure to have to produce his very best snooker.
Nevertheless, titles are won by taking the chances presented, and Jones did exactly that. His 10–6 success earns him his second ranking-event crown, following his recent triumph in the Championship League.
For Jones, it is another important step forward. For Selby, it is a reminder that even the most accomplished players can have difficult nights.
