Kevin Durant Exits NBA Cup Game with Ankle Injury, Suns Face New Setback Ahead of Road Trip
Kevin Durant exited Tuesday’s NBA Cup game against the San Antonio Spurs after twisting his left ankle during a transition drive in the second quarter. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game in the second half due to a left ankle sprain.
The injury occurred when Durant appeared to step on another player’s foot, causing him to twist his ankle and fall hard on his right side. The incident happened with 4:30 left in the half as Spurs forward Justin Champagnie was called for a foul. Despite the injury, Durant managed to hit a jumper before being replaced by Royce O’Neale with 3:51 remaining in the first half. He did not return after heading to the bench.
Durant finished the first half with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. Grayson Allen started the second half in Durant’s place. Although Durant briefly returned to the court, he quickly left and headed to the locker room.
This setback follows Durant’s recent seven-game absence due to a right calf injury, during which the Suns posted a 1-6 record. The team begins a three-game road trip Thursday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
