James Tedesco Locks in Roosters Future with New Deal, Eyes 300-Game Milestone

The Sydney Roosters have secured the services of their star fullback James Tedesco, with the 31-year-old signing a one-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until the end of 2026. This move comes on the heels of the Roosters re-signing rising halfback Sam Walker and their reported pursuit of NSW hooker Reece Robson, solidifying their roster for the seasons ahead.

Tedesco, who joined the Roosters from the Wests Tigers in 2018, made an immediate impact, helping the team claim back-to-back premierships. During his tenure, he has set a new standard at the club, winning a record six Jack Gibson Medals as the Roosters’ best player, including five consecutive years. This season, Tedesco delivered career-best numbers, including 30 try assists, 39 line-break assists, and 167 tackle busts, leading an injury-depleted squad to the preliminary finals despite losing his representative spots with the Blues and Kangaroos.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Tedesco said, “The Roosters have been my home for the past seven years, and I’m excited to continue playing for this incredible club. There’s a strong bond among the group, and I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together in 2025 and beyond.”

Although there had been speculation about potential successors such as Joseph Manu or Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, the duo’s departures have solidified Tedesco’s position as fullback. The extension also sets him on course to reach the 300-game milestone in 2026, needing just 49 more appearances. Roosters coach Trent Robinson praised Tedesco, calling him a “phenomenal player and leader,” emphasizing his importance to the team’s future success.
