Steelers’ George Pickens Hit with Massive Fines as On-Field Antics Spark Controversy

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens continues to draw attention for his on-field behavior, racking up a significant $20,462 in fines during Week 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals. The NFL penalized Pickens for two unsportsmanlike conduct infractions during the game, bringing his total fines for the season to $57,807.

The first penalty occurred with 4:15 left in the first quarter, following a reception where Pickens taunted Bengals linebacker Germaine Pratt. The second penalty involved a violent gesture after a play, and the third fine stemmed from a controversial gun-like gesture after securing a first down. While the second taunting penalty wasn’t directed at the opposing team, it added to his growing disciplinary issues.

When asked about how he plans to address his conduct and avoid further penalties, Pickens appeared uncertain, stating, “I’m out here making plays. Doing the same celebration that every other receiver is doing. So, I’m not sure.” He defended the first-down gesture, claiming it was a simple signal.

This season’s fines follow a 2023 campaign in which Pickens reportedly faced over $200,000 in penalties from the team and the NFL. Despite his on-field talents, his repeated disciplinary troubles are becoming a growing concern for both the league and the Steelers.
