Ryan Rollins’ Rapid Rise Halted: Injury Turns Breakout Moment into Uncertain Future
For a brief stretch in early November, it seemed the Milwaukee Bucks had unearthed a new rotation gem in Ryan Rollins. The 22-year-old guard impressed during a three-game stint where he logged double-digit minutes, averaging 6.3 points, two assists, two steals, and a block per game.
Notably, he shot an impressive 55.6 percent from beyond the arc, sparking hopes that he could carve out a larger role in Milwaukee’s rotation.
However, that momentum came to a screeching halt during his best performance of the season against the Toronto Raptors on November 12. Rollins suffered a hard fall that resulted in a dislocated shoulder.
While initial reports suggested he wouldn’t miss significant time, his situation has since taken a downward turn. Despite being healthy enough to suit up, Rollins has played only four minutes across all games since the injury.
Head coach Doc Rivers shed light on the situation, explaining that Rollins faces a tough decision: continue playing through the injury or undergo surgery. Surgery would sideline him for an extended period, a daunting prospect for a young player on a two-way contract looking to prove himself.
Rivers emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities in a competitive league, acknowledging that Rollins is eager to contribute.
Compounding matters, veteran guard Delon Wright has recently cemented his spot in the rotation. Though Wright has struggled offensively, his defensive contributions have been significant, making him a more reliable option given his health.
Rollins, meanwhile, remains on the outside looking in as his injury lingers.
It’s a frustrating predicament for Rollins, who seemed poised to thrive in Milwaukee’s youth-focused approach this season.
Whether he can overcome the injury and reclaim his role remains uncertain, but the clock is ticking as the Bucks look to balance their immediate needs with long-term development.
