Fiji 7s Coach Osea Kolinisau Unveils Dynamic Duo: Tikomailepanoni and Kabu Set to Ignite the Coral Coast 7s
Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s coach, Osea Kolinisau, recently provided insights into the addition of two new players to the squad: Jope Tikomailepanoni and Rupeni Kabu. Both players are expected to bring fresh energy and valuable attributes to the team as they prepare for the upcoming Coral Coast 7s tournament.
Rupeni Kabu, who has prior experience with the Fiji 7s squad, is known for his relentless work ethic and tenacity on the field. Kolinisau praises Kabu for his resilience, noting that the 24-year-old brings a unique toughness to the squad. Having previously played as a flanker in the 15s game, Kabu’s physicality is seen as an asset. Kolinisau emphasized the need for players who can grind out the tough moments, adding that Kabu’s ability to carry, tackle, and push the team forward aligns with the squad’s requirements.
On the other hand, Jope Tikomailepanoni is described as a powerful and stocky player who has the ability to make a significant impact with his runs. Kolinisau likened his style of play to that of Flying Fijians winger Josua Tuisova, highlighting Tikomailepanoni’s strength and physicality. While both players have different skill sets, they complement the diversity of talents in the Fiji 7s squad.
The competition within the team is fierce, with every player eager to showcase their abilities. Tikomailepanoni and Kabu will feature for the McDonalds Mike Friday select 7s side at the Coral Coast 7s, but both players still have the chance to secure spots in the national squad for the next tournament in Perth. Their performances in this competition will be crucial in determining their future with the national team.
