NRL Tug-of-War: Dylan Brown Weighs $11M Mega Deal as Eels Fight to Keep Star Playmaker

Parramatta Eels head coach Jason Ryles has broken his silence on Dylan Brown’s contract situation after reports emerged that three NRL teams were considering offering the star playmaker a massive ten-year deal worth approximately $11 million.

Brown, one of the most sought-after players on the open market, joins a list of high-profile names such as Adam Reynolds, Cody Walker, Daly Cherry-Evans, and Te Maire Martin, whose futures remain uncertain. Over the past month, speculation has grown around Brown’s next move after it was revealed that he had been offered to all 16 NRL teams and Rugby Australia.

The talented five-eighth has the option to opt out of his current contract with the Eels due to a player-option clause. He has until Round 10 to make a decision about his future beyond the 2025 season.

Amid the swirling rumors, Ryles has assured that the Eels will fully support Brown no matter what choice he makes.

“Dylan is entitled to do whatever he likes regarding his situation,” Ryles said on Friday night. “My role is to provide the best environment for him to perform at his best every day. With me, he’s been outstanding.”

While acknowledging the uncertainty, Ryles emphasized the importance of Brown making the right decision. “Obviously, the sooner, the better, but it’s crucial he gets his decision right because it’s an important one for him.”

Since making his debut in 2019, Brown has played 123 first-grade games for the Eels, forming a strong halves combination with Mitchell Moses that helped guide the team to the 2022 NRL Grand Final. Given his talent and consistency, it’s no surprise that multiple clubs are interested. However, some teams, including the Dolphins and Sydney Roosters, have already ruled themselves out of the race for his signature.

Despite the external interest, Parramatta has shown immense faith in Brown, previously offering him a nine-year contract. Ryles reaffirmed this commitment, saying, “We were clear on our position as a club. We showed a lot of faith in Dylan with that deal, and we’re still in the middle of that process.”

If Brown chooses to remain with the Eels, reports suggest he will still have a get-out clause in his contract for the 2027 season, keeping the door open for another potential move in the future.
