Michigan Reloads: Tschetter & Gayle Jr. Return as Wolverines Gear Up for 2025-26 Redemption
Following a heartbreaking Sweet Sixteen loss to No. 1 seed Auburn, Michigan fans received a welcome boost with the news that two key players—redshirt junior Will Tschetter and junior Roddy Gayle Jr.—plan to return for the 2025-26 season.
Tschetter has been a reliable contributor off the bench, appearing in all 36 games this past season and averaging 6.5 points per contest. His ability to impact both ends of the floor was on full display in a 17-point performance against Oregon on February 5th. With his return, Michigan retains a much-needed veteran presence who can provide quality minutes and leadership.
Gayle, who transferred from Ohio State, played a crucial role for the Wolverines in his first year with the program. Starting in 25 of 35 games, he consistently delivered on offense, reaching double figures in 19 contests. He showcased his scoring ability with multiple 15+ point outings, including a season-high 26 points against Texas A&M in the NCAA Tournament’s second round.
While head coach Dusty May faces a significant challenge in replacing dominant big men Danny Wolf and Vlad Goldin, his ability to build a competitive roster remains unquestioned. With Tschetter and Gayle returning, Michigan retains valuable experience and scoring depth. May will likely turn to the transfer portal to reinforce the frontcourt, ensuring the Wolverines remain a force in the Big Ten next season.
