Payne Haas Powers into Dally M Contention After Broncos’ Stunning Victory Over Bulldogs
Payne Haas has surged into the top ranks of the Dally M Medal race following a standout performance in the Brisbane Broncos’ dominant victory over the previously undefeated Canterbury Bulldogs. The 25-year-old forward earned five votes alongside his teammate, Adam Reynolds, as the Broncos dismantled the Bulldogs 42-18. Haas’ performance was nothing short of extraordinary, running for 230 metres from 28 carries, which included six tackle busts, five offloads, and a linebreak assist. He also provided a try assist and made an impressive 26 tackles without missing a single one.
Reynolds, equally impressive, played a crucial role in orchestrating Brisbane’s attack. He helped the Broncos establish a commanding 34-0 lead by halftime, ultimately finishing with three try assists in the crushing win.
Meanwhile, Wests Tigers’ new recruit Terrell May has also made a strong push in the Dally M race, jumping to second place after a heroic performance in his side’s golden point win over the Cronulla Sharks. May played 84 minutes and ran for 203 metres from 29 carries, recording eight offloads and five tackle busts, along with 36 tackles, missing just one.
On the losing side, Sharks fullback Will Kennedy was still recognized for his efforts, polling three votes after a standout game where he ran for 202 metres, scored a try, and made eight tackle busts. Despite the loss, Kennedy remains at the top of the Dally M leaderboard after Round 8.
Other notable performances in the Anzac Round saw Eli Katoa (Storm), Haumole Olakau’atu (Sea Eagles), and Luke Metcalf (Warriors) each earning the maximum six votes for their exceptional efforts. The Dally M votes, awarded by two independent judges per game, use a 3-2-1 system, further intensifying the competition as the 2025 season continues.
