Taaffe Eyes Exit: Bulldogs Star Hints at Shock Departure in Search of NRL Lifeline
Blake Taaffe has admitted he may need to move on from the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at the end of the season in search of greater NRL opportunities. The utility back, who comes off contract later this year, has found himself on the fringes of the first-grade side, with most of his 2024 game time spent in the NSW Cup behind starting fullback Connor Tracey.
Taaffe has been named in the centres for the Bulldogs’ clash with the Dolphins at Accor Stadium — just his third NRL appearance of the season — but the call-up comes due to the absence of regulars Stephen Crichton (Origin duty) and Jacob Kiraz (calf injury).
While he’s enjoyed the culture and camaraderie at Belmore, Taaffe concedes his future may lie elsewhere if he’s to cement a regular spot in the top grade.
“I’d love to stay, but rugby league is a business. Whatever happens, happens,” he told Zero Tackle.
In the meantime, Taaffe says he’s used his reserve grade time to work on his game in a lower-pressure environment, with the aim of being ready when his chance arises.
“My focus is on improving and being ready for any opportunity that comes my way,” he said.
