From Rejection to Redemption: Fisher-Harris Vows to Make History with Warriors After Shock Penrith Exit
As James Fisher-Harris prepares to face his former Penrith Panthers teammates for the first time since his high-profile move, the Kiwi enforcer has opened up about the journey that brought him full circle.
Before emerging as a premiership-winning force with the Panthers, a young Fisher-Harris was actually overlooked by his now-current club, the New Zealand Warriors. “Stace [Stacey Jones] came and watched me a few times and nothing,” Fisher-Harris said with a shrug, referring to the Warriors assistant coach. At just 17, the promising prop was left without a pathway at home.
It was the Panthers who spotted his potential, sending a scout to Whangārei in New Zealand’s far north to bring the young talent into their system. From there, Fisher-Harris blossomed into a cornerstone of Penrith’s recent dynasty, helping the club to three consecutive NRL premierships.
But despite the glory and deep ties to Penrith, Fisher-Harris made the tough call to return to New Zealand for a fresh challenge. One goal stands above all: helping deliver the Warriors their first-ever premiership.
“It’s something special I want to be part of,” he said. “To be a part of history.”
