NRL Young Gun Zac Lipowicz Seals Shock Super League Switch as Catalans Dragons Launch Bold Rebuild for 2026
Promising Penrith Panthers forward Zac Lipowicz is poised to make the move to Super League in 2026, with reports from Australia indicating that he has agreed terms with Catalans Dragons on a two-year contract. The 23-year-old forward, who is yet to make his NRL debut, will join the Perpignan-based outfit as part of a wider rebuilding effort following a difficult 2025 campaign.
Although Lipowicz hasn’t yet featured in a regular-season NRL fixture, he has made positive impressions in pre-season outings earlier this year against Canberra Raiders and Manly Sea Eagles. He is highly regarded within Penrith’s system and is seen as a player with significant potential. His versatility in the pack—comfortable as a back-rower, loose forward, or even in the front row—adds valuable depth and flexibility to the Catalans’ forward rotation.
Lipowicz also brings international experience to the table. Eligible for Poland through his heritage, he made his debut for the national side in October 2023, scoring a try in a convincing 40-8 win over North Macedonia in Sydney.
According to Zero Tackle, Catalans Dragons have tabled a two-year offer running through the 2026 and 2027 seasons. The move comes as part of a major squad reshuffle for the French club, who have endured a disappointing season that culminated in the departure of long-time head coach Steve McNamara.
With 14 players currently off-contract, including several quota players, Catalans are bracing for a significant turnover of personnel. While half-back Luke Keary is contracted beyond 2025, he is reportedly seeking a release after a tough introduction to Super League. On the recruitment side, the club has already confirmed the signing of Canterbury Bulldogs playmaker Toby Sexton, also on a deal beginning in 2026.
Lipowicz’s arrival could mark a turning point in Catalans’ rebuilding strategy, as they aim to rejuvenate their squad with young, hungry talent capable of restoring the club’s competitive edge in Super League.
