Dally M Medallist Ben Barba Set for 2025 Comeback with Souths Sharks

Ben Barba, the 2012 Dally M Medallist, is set to continue his rugby league journey in Queensland after signing with the Souths Sharks for the 2025 season. Barba, who last played in the NRL in 2016, remains one of the most electrifying fullbacks of his generation.

Over nine seasons and 168 matches, he established himself as a dynamic talent, earning accolades such as the Dally M Medal and later the Man of Steel Award in 2018 during a standout season with Super League side St Helens.

Barba’s illustrious career began with the Canterbury Bulldogs (2008-2013), where his breathtaking performances saw him crowned the league’s best player in his fifth season. Following his tenure with the Bulldogs, he had stints with the Brisbane Broncos (2014) and Cronulla Sharks (2015-16), where he played a pivotal role in their maiden NRL Premiership title.

However, his career took a downturn after a positive drug test in 2016 led to a suspension. This setback prompted a move to French rugby union side Toulon before returning to league with St Helens.

After playing for the Sarina Crocodiles this year, Barba joins a talented Sharks squad in the Rugby League Mackay and District A-Grade Men’s competition. Former NRL players Kenny Edwards and Manu Ma’u will also feature for the team, bolstering their ranks with valuable experience.
