Broncos Go Back-to-Back! Brisbane Reigns Supreme in Thrilling Witzer Pre-Season Challenge Finale
The Brisbane Broncos have secured their second consecutive Witzer Pre-Season Challenge title after a thrilling day of rugby league action, capping off an intense race for the top spot.
The 42nd Charity Shield kicked off the day, with the St. George Illawarra Dragons delivering a dominant performance. Their convincing victory, combined with three crucial bonus points, catapulted them to the top of the Pre-Season Challenge ladder, setting a high benchmark for the rest of the competition.
However, their reign was short-lived. In the second match of the afternoon, the Brisbane Broncos stepped up in emphatic fashion, putting on a clinical display against the Canterbury Bulldogs. Under the guidance of Michael Maguire, Brisbane’s star-studded lineup took charge early, racing to a 14-0 halftime lead. While Canterbury managed to close the gap to within eight points, the Broncos’ substitutes ensured there would be no comeback, sealing a convincing win with two bonus points to reclaim the top spot from the Dragons.
With the Broncos in pole position, all eyes turned to the Dolphins, who needed a 13+ point win and three bonus points against the Gold Coast Titans to snatch the title. However, the Titans had other plans, delivering a stunning 26-18 victory to dash the Dolphins’ hopes and confirm Brisbane as champions.
With the win, the Broncos lifted the Witzer Pre-Season Challenge trophy for the second year in a row and pocketed the $100,000 prize money, setting the stage for a promising 2025 NRL season.
