Bronson Xerri’s Remarkable Comeback: Bulldogs Star Re-Signs Until 2027 After Overcoming Adversity

Bronson Xerri, the Canterbury Bulldogs centre, has officially re-signed with the club for two more seasons, extending his stay until the end of the 2027 NRL season. Returning to professional rugby league this year after a four-year ban, Xerri has been a consistent performer, having made the leap from the NSW Cup back into the starting lineup.

In 2023, Xerri featured in 19 matches, scoring ten tries, assisting in four, and averaging 145 running metres per game. His ability to break through defenses was evident with 39 tackle busts and ten line-breaks.

Once considered one of the brightest young talents in the NRL, Xerri’s career took an unexpected turn in 2019 when he tested positive for a banned substance. This incident led to a lengthy exile from the sport, marking a challenging period in his life.

Reflecting on his return, Xerri shared how the four years away helped him grow as a person. During his ban, he leaned heavily on his close friends and family, particularly his mother, who he described as his “rock” during those dark days. Her unwavering support played a pivotal role in his resilience and eventual comeback.

“There were some very dark days, and my mum was the only one who truly witnessed those struggles,” Xerri revealed. “Hearing her speech after my game was emotional because she saw how hard those years were. I’m proud of how far I’ve come.”

Now 24, Xerri is not just focused on his own career but also hopes to inspire others facing adversity. “I want to be the person who helps others through tough times or mental health issues,” he said. Determined and rejuvenated, Xerri’s journey from a troubled past to a promising future is a testament to resilience and personal growth.
