Detroit Roars Into OTAs by Signing Veteran LB Zach Cunningham in Strategic Roster Shake-Up
As OTAs got underway, the Detroit Lions made a notable addition to their linebacker corps by officially signing veteran Zach Cunningham on Tuesday. The 30-year-old brings experience and depth to the position, following earlier reports that a deal was in the works. To make room on the 90-man roster, the Lions waived linebacker Abraham Beauplan.
Beauplan, who joined the team earlier this offseason, spent most of the 2024 campaign on Detroit’s practice squad. He managed to appear in three games last season, contributing solely on special teams. Now waived, Beauplan is subject to the league’s waiver process and could be picked up by another team seeking special teams help or developmental depth.
Cunningham’s arrival signals Detroit’s intent to strengthen their linebacker unit with proven talent, as the team looks to build on recent progress heading into the 2025 season. His leadership and experience could prove valuable both on and off the field.
