Ravouvou’s Brilliant Hat-Trick Powers Fiji to Stunning 63-10 Victory Over Canada, Secures Pacific Nations Cup Final Spot
A sensational hat-trick from Kalaveti Ravouvou helped the FIJI Water Flying Fijians thrash Canada 63-10, securing their place in the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup final against Japan. The Bristol Bears’ star was named man-of-the-match for his clinical finishing, which led a relentless attack that overwhelmed Canada in a one-sided contest.
The Flying Fijians came out of the gates fast, with winger Taniela Rakuro crossing the try line just three minutes in to give Fiji an early 5-0 lead. Canada responded with a penalty in the fourth minute to narrow the gap to 7-3, but that was as close as they would come to the Fijians throughout the match.
From that moment, Fiji dominated. They tore through Canada’s defense, running in multiple tries to establish a commanding 43-3 lead by halftime. Despite a few disciplinary lapses—most notably a red card for Mesake Doge in the 36th minute—Fiji remained in control.
In the second half, the Flying Fijians continued to flex their muscle at the set-pieces, even with reduced numbers on the field. A yellow card followed for another Fiji player, leaving them with just 13 men for a period. However, they regrouped after returning to full strength by the 55th minute and pushed on to score a further 20 points, sealing the 63-10 victory.
Although Canada managed a consolation try, it never threatened Fiji’s dominance. Fiji’s captain, Tevita Ikanivere, praised his team’s discipline and focus, while head coach Mick Byrne acknowledged the team’s strong start but highlighted the need for improvement in discipline.
With just six days until their final showdown with Japan, the Flying Fijians are gearing up for an exciting clash, with Byrne predicting an intense, high-tempo battle for the title. The final will take place on Sunday at 1:35 PM.
