Fiji Stages Epic Comeback to Stun Kenya 21-14 at Perth 7s!
The Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team displayed remarkable resilience, overcoming a 14-point deficit to defeat Kenya 21-14 in their second pool match at the HSBC SVNS Perth 7s.
Kenya started the match with intensity, delivering a physical challenge that initially disrupted Fiji’s rhythm. Nygel Pettersan Amaitsa struck first for Kenya in the third minute, followed by Samuel Asati crossing the line just two minutes later, giving Kenya a commanding 14-0 lead.
However, the Fijians regained their composure before halftime. Joseva Taladolo made a crucial breakthrough, cutting through Kenya’s defense and passing to captain Filipe Sauturaga. With quick hands, Sauturaga set up Joji Nasova, who scored to narrow the deficit to 14-7 at the break.
The second half saw a determined Fiji take control of the match. Their hallmark precision in offloads and passing created an opening for Taladolo, who sprinted over the line to equalize at 14-14 after a successful conversion from a tight angle.
The decisive moment came when Nasova exploited a gap in Kenya’s defense, racing through to score under the posts. The straightforward conversion sealed a thrilling 21-14 comeback victory for Fiji.
The win keeps Fiji’s hopes alive as they gear up for their final pool clash against New Zealand.
