Farewell to a Legend: Fijian Drua to Honor Maikeli Radua with Moment of Silence Before Crusaders Clash
A moment of silence will be observed before the Fijian Drua’s match against the Crusaders in Suva this Saturday, April 5th, in honor of the late Maikeli Radua. The beloved Viti FM radio announcer, known to many simply as ‘Mike,’ tragically passed away last Saturday following a road accident in Nadera.
For over 30 years, Maikeli Radua’s voice echoed across Fiji and beyond, becoming a household name in iTaukei-language broadcasting. As one of the pioneers of Communications Fiji Limited’s Viti FM, he played an instrumental role in shaping the station’s identity and entertaining millions of listeners.
Fijian Drua General Manager Commercial, Shane Hussein, expressed the team’s deep condolences to Maikeli’s family. He emphasized that Mike’s contributions to sports broadcasting in Fiji had been immense, bringing excitement and energy to rugby matches since Viti FM’s inception in 1996. Recognizing his impact, the Drua will pay tribute with a moment of silence before kickoff, reflecting on his lasting influence on the Fijian sporting community.
Maikeli Radua will be laid to rest in his home village of Waikete, Tailevu, on Saturday. His funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. and will be livestreamed on the Viti FM Facebook page for those who wish to pay their final respects.
