Waqa Blake Sets Sights on Revival with Bradford Bulls

Fijian international and former NRL outside back Waqa Blake has set an ambitious goal of becoming one of the best centres in the RFL Championship after signing with the Bradford Bulls for the 2025 season. Following a challenging year with St Helens RLFC that saw him left without a contract extension, Blake is determined to rebuild his career in the second tier of the Super League.

The 29-year-old, who previously starred for the Parramatta Eels and Penrith Panthers, acknowledged the difficulties of his past season but remains optimistic about the opportunity to reignite his form. “I am coming here looking to put a smile on my face and enjoy my footy again,” Blake shared on the Bulls’ website.

After 165 first-grade matches in nine NRL seasons, Blake knows the stakes are high. A strong showing with Bradford could reopen doors to the NRL, while a subpar season might cement his place in the Championship. “I want to become one of the best centres in the Championship. Doing my job will help everyone else,” he said.

Born in Perth, Blake’s journey began with the Joondalup Giants and Perth Pirates before joining the Penrith Panthers in 2012. He rose through the junior ranks and debuted in 2015, eventually becoming a key player for both the Panthers and the Eels. Released by Parramatta at the end of 2023, Blake is now focused on a fresh start.

Reflecting on his new role, Blake is eager to contribute both on and off the field. “I want to not only play well for myself but for the team. I also want to help nurture the younger players and share my knowledge,” he said. With the ultimate goal of returning to the Super League, Blake is intent on staying injury-free and delivering consistent performances for Bradford in 2025.
