Giannis Antetokounmpo Secures 9th Straight All-Star Start Amid Historic MVP-Caliber Season

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has once again been honored as an NBA All-Star starter, marking the ninth consecutive year he’s received this distinction. This will also be his ninth All-Star game appearance in his remarkable 12-year career. A two-time MVP and NBA Finals MVP, Antetokounmpo continues to elevate his game, solidifying his position among the league’s elite.

This season, Antetokounmpo is posting career-best numbers, averaging 31.5 points (2nd in the NBA), 12 rebounds (5th in the NBA), and 6 assists per game while shooting an impressive 60.5% from the field (9th in the NBA). Last season, he became the first player in league history to average over 30 points on at least 60% shooting for an entire season, and he’s on pace to replicate that feat this year. Adding to his accolades, he began the 2024-25 campaign with a historic 27-game streak of scoring 20+ points on at least 50% shooting, breaking the previous record of 25 games held by Shaquille O’Neal and Zion Williamson.

Currently, Antetokounmpo is riding a 13-game double-double streak, the third-longest active streak in the league and the third-longest of his career. His dominance on both ends of the floor and continued consistency make him an obvious choice for an All-Star starting role.

Joining Antetokounmpo as starters are Donovan Mitchell, Jalen Brunson, Jayson Tatum, Karl-Anthony Towns, Nikola Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant. The All-Star starters were selected through fan voting (50%) combined with player and media input (25% each).

The 74th NBA All-Star Game will take place on February 16 at Chase Center in San Francisco. This year’s event will feature a new tournament-style format with players divided into four teams. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT. Fans eagerly await January 30, when reserves, including Bucks guard Damian Lillard, may be announced.
