While the Lakers are facing limited flexibility when it comes to making major roster moves, bringing back Hayes was considered a low-cost option to provide frontcourt depth. However, with Hayes choosing to move on, the Lakers will need to look elsewhere to fill that role.
Hayes, who joined the Lakers ahead of the 2023–24 season, showed flashes of potential as an athletic rim-runner and energy big. Despite limited minutes behind Anthony Davis, he made a strong impression with his hustle and above-the-rim play.
