NBA Stars Targeted: Jaylen Brown’s Family Home and Coach’s Championship Ring Hit in Brazen Heists
The homes of Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown’s mother and assistant coach Amile Jefferson were targeted by thieves in two separate incidents this week. These break-ins mark the latest in a string of burglaries aimed at high-profile athletes.
On December 15, the Wellesley, Massachusetts, home of Jaylen Brown’s mother was targeted. At the time, Brown’s mother and nephew were present in the house when someone broke a window from outside. Fortunately, police confirmed that nothing was taken or disturbed during the incident.
Wellesley Lieutenant Marie Cleary stated, “It did not appear that anything had been disturbed inside the residence nor did it appear that anything was taken from the residence.” Brown and the Celtics were on a road trip playing against the Washington Wizards at the time.
Just days later, on December 17, Celtics assistant coach Amile Jefferson’s Newton home was also broken into while he was away. Thieves made off with his 2024 NBA Championship ring, which had been freshly awarded following the Celtics’ victorious season.
Addressing the incidents, Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla expressed relief that no one was physically harmed. “They’re healthy, which is good. They’re safe. It’s a scary thing for people. You see it happen in different sports, but when it happens to you, you understand the risk,” he said before the team’s game against the Chicago Bulls.
These incidents are not isolated. Earlier this year, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow had his Ohio mansion ransacked during a nationally televised game, and Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce experienced similar break-ins around their October game.
The trend of targeting athletes’ homes during high-profile games highlights a concerning pattern of organized theft. Police investigations into these crimes remain ongoing.
