Kevin Walters Eyes Perth Bears Coaching Role: A Bold Return to the NRL After Broncos Sacking
Kevin Walters has expressed interest in becoming the inaugural coach of the Perth Bears, just months after being dismissed by the Brisbane Broncos. Despite leading Brisbane to the 2023 NRL grand final and developing a promising young squad, Walters was let go after the Broncos missed the finals in 2024. Now, Walters is reportedly on the shortlist for the Bears’ coaching position ahead of their 2027 NRL debut.
The Bears, as a new franchise, are seeking a coach capable of building a competitive team and laying the foundation for future success. Walters, with his experience in nurturing young talent, is seen as an ideal candidate for this role.
Walters, speaking to Fox NRL, expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity, saying, “Coaching is my passion, and the chance to be part of pioneering a new team in Perth excites me. Setting up a club from scratch is a huge opportunity, and I would love to be involved.” Though no decision has been made yet, Walters’ interest in leading the Bears suggests that he may soon be back in the NRL coaching ranks, eager to contribute to the development of a new club.
