Los Angeles Lakers rookie Bronny James, the son of LeBron James, just completed a two-game G League series near his hometown of Akron, Ohio. With the South Bay Lakers playing road games against the Cleveland Charge on Friday and Saturday, James was with the team for both contests.

While South Bay lost both of these games, James continued his improved play. Averaging 19.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists in two games against Cleveland, James also knocked down 46.2 percent of his three-point attempts, which is a vast improvement for the rookie guard.

On Sunday, the Lakers made multiple roster moves, including one for James.

Officially announcing their big trade with the Brooklyn Nets that brought in Dorian Finney-Smith and Shake Melton, the Lakers also recalled James from South Bay (via G League transactions).

Per Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Lakers head coach JJ Redick told reporters on Monday the hope is for both Finney-Smith and Melton to be active for Tuesday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. If they are not cleared in time, then James could slide up the depth chart with D’Angelo Russell on his way to Brooklyn.

The Lakers choosing to recall James from the G League made sense as South Bay does not play again until Jan. 3 in Mexico City. Additionally, the move also made sense as potential insurance if Los Angeles cannot get its new additions cleared to play in time for Tuesday’s game.

James’ last NBA action came on Dec. 8, but he has turned in multiple strong G League performances since then.
