Lance Stroll Withdraws from Spanish Grand Prix Due to Ongoing Wrist Issues
Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll has been forced to withdraw from the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix on medical advice. The Canadian driver has been experiencing persistent pain in his hand and wrist over recent weeks, which doctors believe is linked to a procedure he underwent in early 2023. That operation followed a serious cycling accident in February 2023 that left him with multiple injuries, including fractured wrists. Although Stroll made a remarkable recovery in time to compete in the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix that year, the long-term effects of the injury appear to have resurfaced.
Aston Martin confirmed that Stroll will now undergo another medical procedure to address the recurring pain, with his focus shifting toward full recovery. “Over the course of the past six weeks, Lance has been experiencing pain in his hand and wrist, which his medical consultant believes is related to the procedure he underwent in 2023,” the team said in a statement.
With no eligible replacement driver—due to F1 regulations requiring participation in qualifying—Aston Martin will run only one car in Barcelona. Stroll, who has scored all of the team’s 14 points this season, had been set to start from 14th on the grid.
