It’s fair to argue whether Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa should still be playing this season after suffering his third concussion in three seasons earlier this year against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2.

Tagovailoa missed four weeks with a concussion while also seeing multiple specialists and weighing his NFL future amid calls for him to retire due to the significant amount of head trauma he’s absorbed since 2022.

However, Tagovailoa made his return to the field back in Week 7 after a month away, leading the Dolphins to three wins in six games, including a three-game win streak heading into Thursday’s Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

It took the 26-year-old QB a little bit to regain his form, but he’s really turned it on in his last two games, and his last outing against the New England Patriots on Sunday earned him a big recognition from the NFL as the league announced Tagovailoa was the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.

It’s the third time Tagovailoa has won the award, and he’s the first Dolphin to win it since running back Raheem Mostert during Week 6 of the 2023 season against the Carolina Panthers.

Tagovailoa is also one of just three AFC players along with Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen and Tennessee Titans kicker Nick Folk to earn POTW honors at least once in each of the last three seasons.

Against New England — a 34-15 Dolphins win — Tagovailoa completed 29 of 40 passes for 317 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions with a 128.9 passer rating. It was just his second 300-yard game of the season and only the third time he threw multiple touchdowns passes this year.

It was also Tagovailoa’s fifth straight game with a completion percentage of 70 or better, and he leads the NFL in completion percentage (73.3) among QBs with seven or more starts.
