Daley Unveils Dream Team: Dean Young Joins NSW Blues as High-Performance Staffer for Thrilling 2025 State of Origin Battle

Laurie Daley has wasted no time assembling a powerful coaching unit for his second stint as head coach of the NSW Blues. After being reappointed for the next two years, Daley has quickly added key figures to his team, including the highly respected Dean Young, who will join as a high-performance staffer.

Young’s appointment brings a wealth of experience, having previously worked as an assistant coach for the Indigenous All-Stars in 2020, under Daley’s leadership.

This addition to the coaching staff is significant, especially with Young’s background as a former player under Daley in 2004. The 41-year-old is eager to contribute to the team’s success, acknowledging the remarkable job done by the staff and players in this year’s State of Origin series, where NSW triumphed over Queensland.

Young expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, stating it’s a privilege to work with the Blues once again, and he’s committed to ensuring the team is well-prepared for the upcoming challenges.

In addition to Young, Daley’s team includes Matt King and Brett White, both of whom remain in their roles as assistant coaches from the previous regime led by Michael Maguire. Furthermore, the highly esteemed Storm coach, Craig Bellamy, will continue in his role as team adviser, adding his wealth of experience and strategic insights to the mix.

Young’s position was made available following the departure of John Cartwright, who took on the head coach position at Hull FC in the Super League. As the Blues begin preparations for the 2025 State of Origin series, which kicks off on May 28, Daley is confident that his carefully chosen team will provide the expertise and leadership required to continue their success.
