Ronnie O’Sullivan and Laila Rouass Tie the Knot in an Iconic, Politically-Charged Ceremony in East London
Snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan and actress Laila Rouass have officially tied the knot, revealing their marriage in a heartfelt Instagram post. The couple shared a joyful picture of themselves standing on the steps of St George’s Town Hall in East London, surrounded by confetti. In the photo, Rouass, 54, looks radiant in a cream-colored slip dress paired with black cowboy boots, while O’Sullivan, 49, dons a navy shirt and trousers. The seven-time world snooker champion, known as “The Rocket,” captioned the image, “We finally made it official!! Mr & Mrs O’Sullivan.”
Rouass, on the other hand, shared a longer message reflecting on the significance of the day. She dedicated a portion of her post to the Palestinian cause, writing: “The Palestinians have taught me so much, most importantly to honour human connection, make love your motivator and to keep refreshing it.” She went on to express the importance of pressing the “refresh button” after a year-long break and referenced their unconventional wedding venue, saying, “Ok…so it wasn’t Venice… that was fully booked! It was Cable Street in Shadwell, where I was born and where my heart belongs.”
She also paid tribute to the local history of the area, noting the significance of Cable Street, where in 1936, local activists and the Jewish community stood against fascist marchers. Rouass added that their “I do’s” were made on the shoulders of those brave individuals.
Known for her roles as Dr. Sahira Shah in Holby City and Amber Gates in Footballers’ Wives, Rouass has also appeared in Primeval, Spooks, and was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing in 2009, where she was paired with Anton Du Beke. The couple’s unique wedding was a personal and political statement, making it all the more special.
