Neil Robertson Replaces Ronnie O’Sullivan in The Masters After Shock Withdrawal!

Neil Robertson has expressed his well wishes for Ronnie O’Sullivan after stepping in as a replacement for the reigning champion at The Masters. O’Sullivan, widely regarded as one of snooker’s all-time greats, has withdrawn from the prestigious tournament on medical grounds, marking a challenging start to 2025 for the Rocket.

The Masters, the second Triple Crown event of the snooker season, is set to commence this Sunday at Alexandra Palace, London. O’Sullivan’s absence opens the door for Robertson, who was ranked 17th at the tournament’s cut-off point. The Australian now has the opportunity to compete in the elite event, running from January 12th to 19th.

Speaking about the situation, Robertson shared mixed feelings. “From a personal point, I’m buzzing to be in The Masters. But I really hope Ronnie’s okay,” he remarked. The former world champion also touched on O’Sullivan’s recent struggles with the game, adding, “He’s been a bit indifferent in terms of his thoughts on the game this season. It’s important he takes the time he needs to refocus.”

Robertson will face John Higgins in the opening match on Sunday. Meanwhile, the World Snooker Tour (WST) confirmed O’Sullivan’s withdrawal and emphasized the importance of his well-being in their Friday statement.
