Taylan May, the former Penrith Panthers outside back, is closing in on a return to the NRL after being spotted touring the South Sydney Rabbitohs’ facilities. May, who previously played 30 NRL games before his career was derailed by an off-field incident, has since been cleared by legal proceedings, with both the NRL and ARLC confirming he is eligible to return if a contract can be secured.
While the June 30 deadline for new contracts is fast approaching, it appears May may not have to wait that long, with reports suggesting the Rabbitohs are keen on his services. South Sydney, dealing with an ongoing injury crisis in their outside backs, could be a perfect fit for May. Players like Alex Johnston, Campbell Graham, and Jack Wighton have all struggled with fitness, leaving the team in need of reinforcements. Although May has been out of the game for some time, he’s likely to start in the NSW Cup to regain match fitness before potentially challenging for a starting spot in the Rabbitohs’ lineup.
May’s preference, however, has always been to play alongside his brothers, with his sibling Terrell, who recently signed with the Sydney Roosters, publicly expressing his desire to team up with Taylan and their other brother Tyrone, currently in England.
