Judd Trump Stunned! Barry Hawkins Shocks World No.1 in Tour Championship Upset
World number one Judd Trump has been eliminated from the Tour Championship after suffering a 10-5 quarter-final loss to Barry Hawkins in Manchester.
Trump started the match strongly, edging ahead 2-1, but Hawkins responded emphatically by winning six consecutive frames, taking control of the contest. Though Trump showed some resilience with a break of 103, he was unable to regain momentum, as the two players traded frames without either securing back-to-back wins from that point forward.
Hawkins, displaying confidence and precision, sealed his victory with impressive breaks of 121 and 81, continuing his excellent run of form. The 45-year-old had previously dominated Shaun Murphy with a commanding 10-1 win to reach the quarter-finals.
Reflecting on his performance, Hawkins expressed his delight: “I’m over the moon. It wasn’t quite the same performance as against Shaun, but I still felt solid. I took most of my chances when they came – it’s never easy beating the world number one.”
Hawkins now awaits the winner of the quarter-final clash between four-time world champion John Higgins and China’s Xiao Guodong. Higgins leads 5-3 overnight, having notched three century breaks, including runs of 137 and 126 to close out the first session.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the draw, Mark Selby has taken a commanding 7-1 lead over Australia’s Neil Robertson after winning six consecutive frames, putting himself in a strong position to advance to the next round.
