Warriors Shake Up Draft Night: Golden State’s Bold Moves Bring in International Talent and Sharpshooting Prospects
The Golden State Warriors made quite a few moves during the second night of the NBA Draft, starting with their original selection at pick 41. They traded this pick to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for picks 52 and 59. But the action didn’t stop there. The Warriors decided to move up from pick 59, making a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies to snag pick 56. With those selections, they landed two intriguing prospects: Alex Toohey from the Sydney Kings in the NBL, and Will Richard from the University of Florida.
Toohey is a versatile player who can contribute across multiple facets of the game, offering a well-rounded skill set that could complement Golden State’s system. Meanwhile, Richard is known for his scoring ability, particularly as a sharp shooter who can light it up from beyond the arc. Both players add depth and potential to the Warriors’ roster as they look to continue building for the future.
In addition to their draft selections, the Warriors made a move to secure another young prospect, signing Chance McMillian from Texas Tech to an Exhibit-10 deal. This non-guaranteed contract gives the Warriors control of his G-League rights should they waive him this offseason. McMillian is a sharp shooting guard who relied heavily on the three-point shot during his college career, with 57% of his attempts coming from beyond the arc. Despite this, he has been highly efficient with his two-point shooting, making over 63% of his attempts. McMillian will now have the chance to showcase his talents during the Warriors’ Summer League run in Las Vegas, from July 10th to the 20th, and potentially earn a spot on the team’s roster moving forward.
