Official: Roosters Secure Origin Star in Stunning Four-Year Deal

NSW State of Origin hooker Reece Robson will join the Sydney Roosters on a lucrative four-year deal beginning in 2026. The North Queensland Cowboys were informed of Robson’s decision to depart at the conclusion of his contract in 2025, ending a five-year tenure with the club.

Roosters head of recruitment Daniel Anderson expressed his excitement about the signing: “We’re pleased to have secured Reece’s signature and look forward to welcoming him to the Roosters in 2026.”

Robson began his NRL career with the St. George Illawarra Dragons in 2018 before establishing himself as a key player for the Cowboys in 2020. His impressive performances earned him State of Origin selection in 2022, where he played five matches for the Blues over two series.

This year, he cemented his spot as NSW’s starting hooker in all three games, contributing to their 2-1 series victory to reclaim the Origin shield. He also earned a call-up to the Kangaroos squad for the Pacific Championships.

The Cowboys made their best effort to retain Robson but were ultimately outbid. “We tabled our best possible offer, but unfortunately were not able to compete with the final offer Reece received,” said Cowboys GM of Football Micheal Luck. “Reece has a young family, and we respect his decision.”

The signing bolsters the Roosters’ future amid uncertainty surrounding current hooker Brandon Smith, whose contract expires at the end of 2024. Robson’s acquisition also offsets the disappointment of missing out on Dragons captain Ben Hunt, who recently re-signed with the Brisbane Broncos.
