‘The Driving Force Behind Us All’: Neal Foulds Pays Tribute to Late Father Geoff Foulds
The world of snooker is mourning the passing of Geoff Foulds, a respected former professional player and influential figure in the sport’s governance. Geoff passed away at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy marked by both his achievements on the table and his contributions off it. Born in 1939, Foulds had a distinguished amateur career, particularly dominating the London snooker scene. Between 1971 and 1979, he claimed the London Championship title six times — a testament to his skill and consistency in a highly competitive era.
Foulds turned professional in 1981, bringing to the pro circuit a wealth of experience and dedication to the sport. Beyond his playing days, he made significant strides in snooker administration. He served as a director on the board of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) from December 1989 until April 1997, holding the position of Chairman during the final few months of his tenure.
His passion for snooker also lived on through his son, Neal Foulds, who followed in his footsteps to become a professional player and later a prominent broadcaster. Paying tribute to his father, Neal expressed the family’s grief and gratitude: “The whole family are heartbroken but touched by the support we have already received. My dad was the driving force behind all of us and we are all immensely proud of him. My own life in snooker is solely down to him with the guidance and advice only a loving father can give.”
