FIA Verdict Saves Leclerc from Shock Disqualification Ahead of Canadian GP After Intense Car Inspection
Charles Leclerc has avoided a potential disqualification following an FIA investigation into his Ferrari car after the Spanish Grand Prix. As part of Formula 1’s routine post-race protocol, a random top-10 finisher is selected for a comprehensive technical inspection to ensure all components meet FIA regulations. This time, Leclerc’s car was chosen, and officials conducted a detailed examination of its rear brake system.
The findings, released ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, confirmed that Leclerc’s car complied with all technical standards—much to Ferrari’s relief. The team had reason to be anxious, having already faced disqualification drama earlier in the season. At the Chinese Grand Prix, both Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton lost their respective fifth and sixth-place finishes due to separate technical infringements. Leclerc’s car was found to be 1kg under the minimum weight requirement of 800kg, while Hamilton’s car failed plank wear regulations by just half a millimetre.
