Fiji 7s Stunned by Spain, Slip to Third in Series Standings
The Fiji Men’s 7s team fell short of a podium finish at the Vancouver 7s, suffering a 22-7 defeat to Spain in the third-place playoff. The loss sees Fiji drop to third place in the overall HSBC SVNS Series standings.
Fiji began the match on a strong note, with Joseva Talacolo crossing over for the opening try to give them a 7-0 lead. However, Spain quickly responded, closing the gap to 7-5. Just before halftime, Spain struck again, taking a 12-7 advantage into the break.
The second half saw Spain take control, dominating possession and extending their lead to 17-7. Despite Fiji’s efforts to mount a comeback, Spain sealed the victory with a final try, securing third place in the tournament.
With this result, Fiji missed out on a top-three finish and now sit third in the overall series rankings. Meanwhile, the Fijiana 7s team is set to face New Zealand in the women’s final at 1:41 pm.
