Florida State hosted its third consecutive junior day to kick off February, bringing in plenty of talent, including several elite 2027 recruits.
One of the notable visitors in Tallahassee was three-star safety and FSU commit, Tedarius Hughes. Recently, Hughes has been attracting attention from several Power 5 schools, so it was important for the Seminoles to get him back on campus. It appears that the visit was a success.
However, Hughes received another offer on Saturday evening. As posted on his social media, Pittsburgh has extended a scholarship to him, making them the second school, after Florida, to offer him since the start of 2025.
Coaches from other programs, including Syracuse and Miami, have also met with him this month. Florida State has been working hard to keep Hughes committed, with head coach Mike Norvell and defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. visiting him in January.
Hughes had an impressive junior season at South Dade High School, contributing on both offense and defense for a team that made the playoffs. He recorded 34 tackles, four tackles for loss, five pass deflections, and two interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown. On offense, he caught 12 passes for 187 yards and four touchdowns. Additionally, he returned nine punts for 175 yards (19.4 yards per return) and another touchdown.
His standout game came in a 14-7 win over Homestead High School on August 30, when he posted a season-high six tackles, two tackles for loss, and one pass deflection. He also caught five passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns in a 48-13 win over Santaluces High School on November 15.
The 6-foot-2, 170-pound defensive back is ranked as the No. 464 overall prospect, the No. 40 safety, and the No. 71 recruit in Florida for the 2026 class by 247Sports.
Florida State currently holds six verbal commitments in its 2026 class, which ranks No. 10 nationally.
