Well, if Lakers fans were looking for a reason to laugh at the Kings, Tuesday presented a big one.

After lots of murmurs and whispers this season, the Kings had to face reality on Tuesday when Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the franchise would begin listening to trade offers for All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox.

The phrase ”a target destination in mind” certainly raised some eyebrows. Considering the Lakers are often a “target destination,” it might have perked up the brows of Lakers fans even more. And recently, the Lakers have been mentioned in the same breath as Fox.

But before I could even put together an article about whether the Lakers could be that destination in a trade, Charania immediately shot down the purple and gold as a possibility.

Seriously, there are eight minutes between those tweets! And one of them was a video that had to be recorded and tweeted!

Come on, guys. Let us have a little fun.

Realistically, even if Fox said Los Angeles was a target destination, the idea of the Kings trading their franchise player to the Lakers is about as improbable as they come. You think Sacramento would give their hated rivals their best player in generations?

It was always going to be unlikely that Fox would be donning purple and gold, no matter how great the fit is. Imagine a Fox-AD pick and roll for the post-LeBron James years. I mean, the trio of LeBron, Fox and AD is about as good as they come.

But instead of imagining all of that, we can just laugh about how bad the Kings look set to be again.
