Blake Taaffe has proven himself to be a valuable asset for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs throughout the 2025 NRL season, even if he hasn’t featured in the top grade since Round 15. His versatility across multiple backline positions has made him a reliable back-up option, consistently stepping in when needed and providing depth for the squad. However, his immediate future has been put on hold following a hamstring injury sustained during a NSW Cup match against the Penrith Panthers on Friday night. The injury will see him sidelined for an indefinite period, halting any short-term opportunity for a return to first-grade action.
Despite the setback, Taaffe remains hopeful about his future in rugby league. Speaking candidly about his contract situation, he acknowledged the possibility that his time at Belmore could be nearing its end, with his current deal running only through 2025. Still, Taaffe expressed a strong desire to remain with the Bulldogs, citing the club’s development and supportive environment as key reasons.
“I’d love to stay around here,” Taaffe said. “What the club’s done in the past few years and the people they’ve brought in—it’s awesome. I’ve got a good relationship with the boys and the staff. I’d love to stay, but it just depends on what happens.”
Recognizing the business nature of professional sport, Taaffe understands that his future may lie elsewhere. However, given his youth and the considerable potential he has shown, it’s likely he would draw attention from rival clubs should the Bulldogs choose not to re-sign him.
