Fiji Fires Warning Shot in Singapore: Ruthless 38-0 Demolition of USA in 7s Opener
The Fiji Airways men’s 7s team kicked off their Singapore 7s campaign with a dominant and clinical performance, dismantling the United States 38-0 in their opening match. From the opening whistle, Fiji asserted control, displaying their trademark flair, speed, and precision in attack while maintaining an impenetrable defensive line throughout the contest.
Joseva Talacolo set the tone early, slicing through the USA defence to score the first try. George Bose followed soon after with another well-executed finish, capitalising on Fiji’s early dominance. Despite Iowane Teba missing both conversion attempts, he made amends by adding a try of his own, this time successfully converting it to extend Fiji’s lead.
Just before halftime, Tira Welagi powered over for another try, with Filipe Sauturaga adding the extra points to send Fiji into the break with a commanding 24-0 lead.
The Fijians kept their foot on the gas in the second half. Joji Nasova broke free to score and converted his own try, further dampening any hopes of a USA comeback. Viwa Naduvalo then capped off the performance with a sixth and final try, converted by Sakiusa Siqila, sealing a complete 38-0 shutout.
Fiji’s clinical execution, fast-paced attack, and suffocating defence sent a clear message to the rest of the competition. They now face arch-rivals New Zealand in what promises to be a thrilling showdown at 12:22 pm.
