Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has issued a public apology following an on-field incident involving a fan during the team’s dramatic 41-40 season-opening loss to the Buffalo Bills. The highly emotional moment occurred late in the third quarter after DeAndre Hopkins hauled in a 29-yard touchdown pass, electrifying the crowd.
As Hopkins celebrated the crucial score in the end zone, a fan in close proximity reached out and struck the wide receiver on the helmet. The same fan then appeared to make contact with Jackson, who was nearby. Reacting instinctively, Jackson forcefully shoved the fan back into his seat. Security quickly intervened, and the individual was ejected from the stadium.
Following the game, Jackson expressed regret for his reaction, acknowledging that he momentarily lost composure in the heat of the moment.
“I saw him slap D-Hop, then he slapped me and he was talking,” Jackson said. “I just forgot where I was for a little bit. You have to think in those situations. You’ve got security out there — let security handle it.”
Jackson admitted his emotions got the better of him and vowed to learn from the experience. “I just let my emotions get the best of me. But hopefully it won’t happen again,” he added. “I’ll learn from that.”
