Sean Russell Secures Future with Eels as Rising Star Earns 2026 Extension After Breakout Year

The Parramatta Eels have bolstered their roster under new head coach Jason Ryles by securing key talent, with Sean Russell signing a one-year contract extension through to the end of the 2026 NRL season. This move comes as a reward for Russell’s stellar performances over the past year, which earned him selection in the prestigious 2024 Prime Minister’s XIII team.

A product of the Eels’ renowned pathways system, Russell has grown into a dependable player since his NRL debut in 2021. The 23-year-old featured in 21 matches this season, showcasing his versatility by excelling on both the wing and in the centres. His stats speak volumes about his contribution to the team, with five tries and an impressive average of 108 running metres per game.

The competition for spots in the Eels’ lineup will intensify in 2025, especially with high-profile additions like Josh Addo-Carr and Zac Lomax joining from the Bulldogs and Dragons, respectively. Russell will contend with seasoned players such as Bailey Simonsson, Jake Tago, and Joash Papalii, but his work ethic and determination make him a strong contender.
