The Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team suffered a tough loss in the quarterfinals of the HSBC Perth 7s, falling to a dominant South African side and missing out on a semifinal berth. The Fijians were outplayed, enduring a 19-0 defeat in the second quarterfinal matchup of the day.

South Africa, coached by Philip Snyman, set the tone early, crossing over for a converted try and quickly adding another before halftime to establish a commanding 12-0 lead. Fiji’s struggles were compounded by discipline issues, with Joji Nasova receiving a yellow card just before the break, leaving the team shorthanded.

The second half saw the challenges intensify as Ioane Teba was also sent to the sin bin for an infringement, which led to a penalty try for South Africa. This extended their lead to 19-0, effectively sealing the game. Despite their efforts to find a breakthrough, Fiji could not overcome South Africa’s resilient defense.

South Africa’s clinical performance secured their place in the semifinals, where they will face the winner of the fourth quarterfinal. Meanwhile, Fiji will aim to salvage their campaign in the 5th place playoff against France, scheduled for 9:27 pm tomorrow.
