Things have gone from bad to worse for the Golden State Warriors in recent weeks. Steve Kerr’s team has now lost two of its 39 games and faces an uphill battle to earn a shot at competing in the playoffs. All of the excitement and goodwill from the Warriors’ hot start to the season has long since faded, and calls for the franchise to make a trade have been growing louder.

During a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, Draymond Green revealed that Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr and himself are all against the franchise making a move that could hamstring them in the future. Instead, the championship-winning trio are willing to wait things out, knowing that it will allow the Warriors to have flexibility in the future.

“The beautiful part about being in the space that we’re in is, Steve Kerr, Steph Curry and myself all disagree with mortgaging off the future of this organization, saying that we’re going for it right now,” Green said in an interview with Yahoo Sports. “Bad teams do that. Bad organizations do that. We’re neither one. So for us, if something is going to happen, it needs to be the right thing,” Green continued. “We’re not going to jump and make the wrong decision because we panicked. That’s how you set your organization back five to seven years.”

Golden State has lost four of its last five outings. The teams inability to hold onto leads down the stretch has been a significant issue for them, including their loss to the Toronto Raptors on Monday, Jan. 13, where they let go of the rope despite holding a nine-point lead. As such, there’s a clear need for some additional veteran leadership within the roster.

The problem is that Golden State’s best trade assets are its young players and draft picks. Moving them for a short-term boost is risky. Green is right. The Warriors are better served remaining patient and doing their due diligence before making another trade.
