Julien Alfred Wins 200m in Zagreb but Slams Performance: “I’m Nowhere Near My Best”
Olympic silver medallist Julien Alfred continued her unbeaten streak this season with a win in the women’s 200m at the 75th Boris Hanžeković Memorial in Zagreb, Croatia. Clocking 22.15 seconds, Alfred claimed the top spot but remained visibly unsatisfied with her performance.
While the victory marked another milestone in what has been an impressive season, the Saint Lucian sprinter revealed that she had hoped for a faster time. “It didn’t go as planned,” Alfred admitted, expressing disappointment at not improving her season-best. She noted that challenging weather conditions in Zagreb played a role, saying the cooler climate disrupted her rhythm, as she’s more accustomed to competing in warmer conditions.
Alfred began her 2025 campaign indoors, opening strongly with a 300m win at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in 36.16 seconds. She followed that up with a 400m victory at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational, demonstrating her range and endurance across multiple sprint events.
Despite her consistent winning form, Alfred made it clear she believes she hasn’t yet reached her peak. “I know there’s more to come,” she said, hinting at higher expectations for herself as the season progresses.
With the Olympics on the horizon, Alfred’s drive for perfection suggests that her recent performances are only a glimpse of what’s ahead. Her hunger for improvement, even in victory, is a clear sign she’s focused on much bigger goals.
