There is an opportunity for the Los Angeles Lakers to start rebuilding the type of momentum they had a few weeks ago when they host the Brooklyn Nets on Friday. They’re coming off a 117-108 win over the Miami Heat on Wednesday that saw them overcome a double-digit halftime deficit, and in that game, they got back to the type of active defense that recently allowed them to win eight of 11 contests.

In that matchup, they were without forward Dorian Finney-Smith, who was out following the birth of his first child. Because of that new addition to his family, he will also miss Friday’s game versus Brooklyn.

Since arriving in a Dec. 29 trade with those same Nets, Finney-Smith has given Los Angeles some tenacious defense and reliable 3-point shooting. He has averaged 6.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in 23.7 minutes a game while shooting 40.9% from 3-point range since arriving in that trade, and he’s one of the few players on L.A.’s roster who has a positive net rating, albeit in a small sample space.
