Tennis Star Hit with Lifetime Ban in Explosive Match-Fixing Scandal
In a significant blow to the sport’s integrity, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has imposed a lifetime ban on Thai tennis player Jatuporn Na Lamphun following a series of serious corruption violations. The 31-year-old, who was unranked at the time, has also been fined £84,000 after being found guilty of attempting to manipulate the outcomes of 22 professional matches between 2023 and 2024.
The extensive investigation, conducted under the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP), revealed that Na Lamphun either offered or provided money in 18 of those matches as part of a broader effort to fix results. His conduct also included a failure to cooperate with ITIA investigators, further compounding the severity of the charges against him.
Na Lamphun had been provisionally suspended in December 2024 as the investigation unfolded. However, he failed to respond to the charges or appeal the final ruling, leading to the official enforcement of the lifetime ban on August 20, 2025. The decision was confirmed by an independent Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer.
The ITIA has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of tennis, stating that the case exemplifies the agency’s zero-tolerance stance toward corruption in the sport. By enforcing strict penalties against those who attempt to compromise fair play, the ITIA aims to ensure a clean and trustworthy environment for players and fans alike.
